Hash Generator
Type or paste text, choose SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512, and copy the hex digest. The computation runs in the browser and never touches a server.
What Web Crypto provides
The tool uses crypto.subtle.digest, which is available in secure contexts. It offers SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512. MD5 and SHA-3 are not part of the browser API, so they are not offered rather than implemented by hand.
SHA-1 is included for compatibility with existing checksums, not as a recommendation. For new integrity or signature work, use SHA-256 or SHA-512; see the hash reference for the status of each algorithm.
A hash is not encryption
Hashing is one-way: there is no key and no decryption. The same input always produces the same digest, which makes hashes useful for integrity checks and content identifiers. It also means a plain hash cannot prove who created a message; that requires a keyed construction such as HMAC or a signature.
Do not use these fast hashes to store passwords. A fast digest lets an attacker test guesses at high speed; bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2id exist for that job.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my text sent?
Nowhere. The digest is computed in the browser with the Web Crypto API.
Can I generate an MD5 hash here?
No. The browser API does not provide MD5, and the tool does not ship a custom implementation.
Is SHA-1 safe?
It is deprecated for security because collisions are practical. It remains useful only for legacy compatibility.
